How to Boost the Internet Signal on a Smartphone

Phone settings

How can I boost the cellular signal? You can first try changing the settings of the received signal. By default, the smartphone will receive a higher level of mobile Internet. At the moment there are:

  • 2G (900 – 1800 MHz).
  • 3G (900 – 2100 MHz).
  • 4G (2600 MHz).

The problem is that the higher the frequency of the wave, the faster it fades and hits at a shorter distance. Also, many operators do not use the 2100 MHz frequency when using 4G. In general, you can play around with your internet settings and manually set network priority.

  • Go to the “Settings” of the Android.
  • Find the section related to the network and the Internet.
  • Go to “Mobile communications”.
  • Find the item where you can set the network type – if there is no such item, then open “Advanced Settings”.
  • The default will be the highest network type – most often 4G. But as we said before, the connection can be worse. Alternatively, you can try to set 3G or 2G Internet.

The connection is good, but the Internet works poorly

You can perform a few simple actions:

  • Probably some application or program is actively using the Internet. If I were you, I would clean the phone and delete everything unnecessary and superfluous.
  • Install any antivirus software and check your smartphone – maybe it is infected.
  • Go to “Settings” – “System” – find the “Reset Settings” section. You can start by resetting your mobile internet and Wi-Fi settings. Next, reset the apps. Full reset is worth doing only if you have already made a backup from the system, and are sure that the problem lies exactly in the phone system.

Real signal enhancement

How to improve the signal in real conditions? Let’s take a look at how communication with a smartphone works in general. The mobile operator in large cities installs cell towers. They are called “cells” for a reason – because they are installed at a certain distance and thus cover their territory with mobile and Internet communications.

The pattern you see is ideal, but in our world that is rare. In some areas, coverage may not reach the neighboring tower, and the connection may be poor there. Data is transmitted using radio waves. Radio waves, like all waves, tend to attenuate – that is, the farther you are from the tower, the worse the connection will be.

Also, radio waves are attenuated by any obstacle: trees, buildings, walls, people, and anything that is not a vacuum. Even a trivial increase in humidity or rain will degrade communications. In general, any body in the path of a wave increases its attenuation-you have to remember that.

So there are also two options here. The first is you can physically walk up to the window if you are at home, or you can choose a location where there are as few obstacles in the path of the wave as possible. You can also just get closer to the transmitter itself. The second option is to use an antenna.
